SUPER scouts are preparing to rub shoulders with royalty after gaining the highest honour a Scout can achieve.

Months of hard work and determination paid off for 11 scouts from both the 32nd and 80th Greenock and District Scout Groups who were presented with their Queen’s Scout Awards during a service at Wellpark Mid Kirk.

During the service, the Depute Lord Lieutenant Colonel Peter McCarthy praised the young people for their extraordinary efforts.

The youngsters, who will now attend the Queen’s parade at Windsor castle at the end of April are Ciaran McGuinness, Cameron Ward, Aaron Nelis, Corrie Docherty, Jonathan Fitzharris, Mark Magee, Ross MacDonald, Niall McGuinness, Caitlin Monaghan, Natalie Peterson and Stephen Coyle.

The service, which was conducted by the Rev Alan Sorensen and assisted by Father John Morrison of St Patrick’s church in Orangefield, also saw the 32nd group receive their new colours.

The old colours, now 50 years old, were ‘laid up’ by explorer scouts Laurie McCallum and Beth McGugan, both of whose grandfathers were in the group at that time.
