MORTON’S football camps for children have exploded in the last year with the numbers more than doubling in the last year.

Community Trust coach Brian McLaughlin and his team started off with seve classes and since January last year they are now up to 20.

The trust’s football sessions gives youngsters as young as two the chance to get fit and play football, with camps running during the holidays as well.

With 400 youngsters signed up every week, the trust are now looking at expanding.

Brian said: “It is a great success. All we want is to get children into sport and have fun.

“We have doubled the number of classes and now we are looking at opening a class in Port Glasgow.

“There is a real expansion taking place. We would never turn anyone away.

“At the age of two it is all about fundamental movement and as they get older they develop their skills.

“We want children to love football.”

In total 380 youngsters take part in the 20 classes operating four days a week.

The community trust classes operate for all primary school ages, regardless of ability.

In the Micro Morton class they take nursery toddlers up to pre-school children and then for primary one to P7 there is Mini Morton.
