BONNIE bravehearts toasted the Bard in true Scottish style as they danced and sang their hearts out at a special concert.

Patriotic pupils from Lady Alice Primary invited their parents to join them at the school yesterday for a special performance to celebrate Burns Day.

Six-year-old Rebecca Cameron was one of the pupils who took centre stage at the event to perform a Highland dance routine.

She told the Tele: “It was really good and I got to show my friends my Highland dancing.

“I also got to wear my kilt.”

Her P2 classmates Abbey Graham, Owen Cheshire and Savannah Robb also enjoyed singing the traditional Scottish song ‘Three Craws’.

Abbey said: “I was nervous before going on stage because I knew I was going to be singing in front of the parents. But it was good fun.”

Head teacher Maureen Morris said the concert was the perfect opportunity for the primary one to three youngsters to show their parents what they have learned.

She said: “The primary one to three pupils have been studying Scottish culture and will continue to learn more until the end of term.

"So it’s great for the children to show their parents what they have learned and the parents can see how confident they are on stage.

“Being on stage is something that the children will remember.”

Mrs Morris was keen to thank chaplain Fraser Donaldson and his assistant Andrew McAleese, who got everyone singing along to their catchy repertoire – which included everything from the traditional Scottish song ‘Mairi’s Wedding’ to a Scottish version of the recent chart-topping hit ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
