A BUSINESSMAN claims he is being forced out of Gourock because of parking problems.

James Wilson, 50, who runs a removal firm, used to park in Station Road before the railway station area was revamped.

But a pay and display was recently introduced whereby people have to pay a £1 a day to park.

James, who lives in the Grieve Road area, said: “Most of my work is in Gourock and I don’t have premises.

“It didn’t seem to be a problem parking in Station Road before but now that has double yellow lines.”

One of the traffic wardens suggested he use the free car park in Kempock Street but the bays are too small.

James, who started his company Dump the Junk in 2007, said: “I’ve only got a Luton van which isn’t that big but when I parked there I couldn’t open the van doors and I got a ticket for being over the white lines. This is costing me money, there is nowhere for me to park in Gourock.”

A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said:“The bays in our car parks meet all necessary requirements to accommodate vehicles. If our car park spaces do not suit this one individual’s requirements which appear to be very specific there are other car parks nearby. He should probably use one of those instead.”
