A GREENOCK valet firm hope to clean up with a fundraising effort for former Morton star David MacGregor ahead of his 10,000 foot charity skydive.

Bogston-based company Make Me Clean made a sparkling donation of £575 to the ex-Cappielow stalwart, who will leap out of a plane next month to thank the medics who saved the life of his son Rory after he was born with a life-threatening heart condition.

The Greenock valet and detailing company will also hand over a further £10 from every job up until the skydive on Sunday March 13.

The kind gesture helped kickstart David’s fundraising, with an impressive £2,600 raised to date.

Blair Robertson, who co-owns the business, said: “He was nowhere near his target to begin with and had to raise £500, so we decided to donate £575 to take him over the mark.

“Now for every car that comes in until the skydive we’re putting another £10 towards it.

“We just wanted to do something to help.”
Rory is also Blair’s nephew through wife Lucy, who is the sister to David’s fiancee Naeomi.

All proceeds from the skydive will be donated to the Yorkhill Children’s Charity after staff at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children performed life-saving surgery on three-day-old Rory, after he was born on November 15 last year.

To show his appreciation and that of Rory’s mum Naeomi, David signed up for the sponsored skydive.

He told the Tele: “People have given so generously — there’s been an influx of money.

“More than £2,500 has been raised so far — that’s fantastic.

“Make Me Clean have been very generous and looking at the pictures on Facebook, they do a good a good job with the cars too.

“It’s all gratefully received.

“If we can raise a wee bit more then that would be great.”

For David the countdown is now on for the skydive — and after years preparing for matches with Morton, he is now in uncharted territory.

The personal trainer, who runs Inverclyde Leisure’s Birkmyre Gym in Kilmacolm, said: “I’m not quite sure how you train for this!

“I keep myself generally fit and healthy so it’s really just about plucking up the courage.

“I’m nervous but it’s for a great cause.”
