A GREENOCK businessman is celebrating after winning a prestigious national award.

Puneet Gupta, who runs PG Paper with his wife, Poonam, was named Businessman of the Year at the annual Scottish Asian Business Awards.

The company is based at Greenock’s revamped Custom House, and operates in 50 countries around the world.

Puneet says he’s ‘absolutely delighted” at the accolade.

He said: “The award is a great honour.

“However, it is not just down to me and I would like to also extend the congratulations to the wider team at PG Paper.

“Without their tireless commitment and dedication, winning this award would not be possible, and I am thankful of having such a great team around me.”

Puneet added: “I would also like to extend my thanks to my family.

“My wife Poonam, children Saanvi and Aanya and my parents have given me extensive support over the years.

“Without them, achieving this would not be possible.

“I am looking forward to continuing to expand and grow the operation at PG Paper – and to the challenges which I know 2016 will bring.”

The presentation was made at a glittering ceremony in a Glasgow hotel.

The awards also helped raise around £7,500 for The Well Foundation and funds raised will be used towards building a school in Malawi.

PG Paper, established in 2003, currently employs 10 people in Inverclyde, and hopes to double that number within the next year.

It also employs 12 people in India and and five at various places around the world.

It acts as a ‘middle man’ for many companies by sourcing and supplying paper and other products, including plastic, metal and oil.

The company has twice won Greenock Chamber of Commerce Bees Knees awards.
