PUPILS at a Greenock school turned the tables on the Tele as they asked the questions and learned all about the world of work.

Youngsters from All Saints Primary held a careers event which included visits from a vet, an architect, firefighters – and our reporter Paul John Coulter.

Pupils in P7b quizzed him on various aspects of journalism in print, online and on social media and they were given an insight into what it’s like to work in the Tele’s busy newsroom.

The inquisitive students also questioned photographer George Munro and found out about the crucial role he plays for the paper.

Other special guests throughout the week included Ingeborg Lindholm from Abbey Vets in Greenock, Alison Dorrian from Inverclyde Active Schools, Fr John Morrison from St Patrick’s Church in Greenock and All Saints’ very own depute head teacher Anne-Marie McAvoy who discussed what it’s like being a teacher.

Teacher Jennifer McGachy said: “It’s been great.

“We had the fire brigade in on Wednesday and Thursday and the pupils were out at the fire engine and got soaked with the hose.

“Most classes had at least one visitor each day.

“Quite a lot were family and friends.”

The World of Work Week events were organised by teachers Miss Simpson and Mrs Cushnahan and they had additional importance for the senior pupils at All Saints.

Miss McGachy said: “It’s really worthwhile especially for P7 who are going into high school after the summer.

“They have to start thinking about subjects and what they need to do to get to where they want to go.”
