RESIDENTS and staff at a Greenock care home enjoyed a right royal knees up to celebrate the Queen’s 90th — and toast one of their own who shares her birthday with Her Majesty.

Balclutha Court was awash with Union Jacks and champagne as everyone enjoyed a special garden party to mark the monarch’s milestone on Thursday.

It was also the birthday of resident Jessie Landels, who turned 87, and she was made to feel like Queen for the day by friends and staff.

But the humble OAP didn’t want to take the shine off the sovereign’s big day and paid tribute to our monarch.

Jessie said: “Her Majesty is really marvellous. She always dresses nicely and keeps herself going, which is really important at our age.

“She has done a great job over the years and is greatly loved.”

The Queen’s 90th was a significant day for everyone at the home, especially as many residents have lived throughout her entire reign and remember her coronation vividly.

Staff held a royal garden party to mark the occasion and residents also sent a birthday card to Buckingham Palace conveying their warmest wishes.

Everyone donned their finest clothes and enjoyed a glass of bubbly and a delicious buffet while basking in a day of glorious Greenock sunshine.

Alison Dickson, general manager at Balclutha Court, said: “We all had a great time celebrating the Queen’s birthday and we send her our warmest wishes as she enters her 90th year.

“The garden party at Balclutha Court was a really special event with lots of friends joining us.

“Our fantastic hospitality team made sure all our guests got the royal treatment.”

Events took place across Inverclyde on Thursday to celebrate the Queen’s milestone birthday.

Crowds also gathered at Lyle Hill in the evening as a beacon was lit in her honour.
