A GREENOCK teenager proved he’s ‘miles better’ after being selected to represent Scotland at a major running event.

Rising athlete Cameron Watson, 15, followed in the footsteps of running legend Mo Farah when he lined up for the mini London marathon.

Cameron, who trains six days a week with Inverclyde Athletic Club, said it was great to fly the flag for his country in the three-mile road race.

He told the Telegraph: “This was the first time that I’ve run for Scotland.

“I was one of six runners to be selected from Scotland, Ireland and Wales and there were runners from all the English counties too.

“There were a lot of good athletes so I tried to run the best I could.”

Cameron, who lives in Greenock with his mum Teresa, dad James and sister Ailsa, 19, is already an accomplished cross-country runner who has put in stellar performances in competitions up and down the land recently.

The Clydeview Academy pupil said: “I train six days a week so it can be hard to fit everything in, but I really enjoy it.

“I want to thank my family as they buy all my kit and take me everywhere.”
Janice Hendrie, who is the coaching co-ordinator at Inverclyde Athletics Club, said Cameron has put in a huge amount of hard work and effort over the past year.

She said: “Cameron has shown a lot of determination this year and has pushed himself at training.

“He’s really applied himself and you can see that in his races. It was great for him to experience the mini marathon.”
