GREENOCK’S ‘goal-den’ girls proved they are on the ball after gaining promotion to the top flight of netball.

The pivot-perfect players at Clyde Netball Club won 16 games in a row, which secured them a place in the Glasgow Netball League’s top division.

Coach Claire Munn said the girls, who are aged between 15 and 24, have scored an incredible 1,111 goals during the season, which started back in September.

She told the Tele: “We only started playing in the league four years ago and we climbed from division three to one. We got relegated to division two last year, but since September I have watched the girls grow in confidence and go on to win 16 games back to back.

“It’s an incredible achievement to be promoted to division one again.”
Claire, whose two daughters Rebecca and Kerrie play for the team, was keen to praise the team’s outstanding commitment to the sport.

She added: “The games are on a Wednesday night in Glasgow so for a lot of the girls they are coming in from school then heading straight up.

“The commitment that they have shown is amazing.”
