THE Beacon Arts Centre is the latest local landmark promising to light up for the Tele backed Glow Gold campaign inspired by a five-year-old Gourock boy battling leukaemia.

It is the first building on the Waterfront to join the campaign, as people rush to show their support for brave schoolboy Nathan Mowat and others like him.

His mum Gillian touched the hearts of our readers when she spoke about their ordeal after the youngster was diagnosed with the disease.

And they been inspired by her fighting spirit so much as to light up gold on September 1.

The Beacon’s chief executive Jackie Shearer is keen to get others on board.

She said: “The Beacon is proud to support local mum, Gillian Mowat. Along with a range of local and national landmarks, Beacon Arts Centre will turn itself gold, highlighting the issue of childhood cancer to a wider public.”

It is the latest success for Gillian who has been overwhelmed the outpouring of support from people desperate to help.

At the school gates and in her home town people have pledged their support, with an 82-year-old woman offering to make crafts she can sell to help fundraise.

Proud mum Gillian said: “We are just delighted that such a well know landmark that can be seen throughout the town will light up. All the support that we have had is great.

“We are so happy with the support and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped us so far.”

We recently told how Nathan was diagnosed with a form of the blood cancer and faces another two years of treatment.

He was diagnosed just before his fourth birthday and was immediately undergoing life-saving chemotherapy treatment and spent weeks in hospital.

The community has been 100 per cent behind the colourful campaign, with Morton inviting Nathan to be a mascot on the last game of the season. Fans held up cards to show their support for the Go Gold campaign.

The riverside theatre is a state-of-the-art building on the Waterfront and will shine Gold on September 1 for Childhood Cancer Awareness month. We are hoping that everyone will get behind the campaign as Inverclyde glows gold on September 1.
