MORTON haved scored a major own goal with their new home kit for the forthcoming season - after suffering a major backlash from angry fans.
Supporters have tonight launched an online petition on Change.org calling for the club to ditch the new Nike strip, exclusively revealed in the Tele today, with many labelling it 'over-priced' and 'embarassing'.
The petition says fans believe the kit fails to 'represent the history and traditions of the club', adding that it looks 'cheap'.
It calls on fans to refuse to purchase the kit unless it is changed back to the club's famous blue and white hoops.
By 10pm tonight it had already gathered almost 200 supporters.
Fans also took to various forums on Facebook to register their anger and call for a boycott on the strip's purchase.
Ditching the hoops was Morton's second blunder of the day involving the controversial kit.
The Greenock club's online club shop also had the new top priced at £40 along with the words "Make sure you are kitted out for the new season as 'ton look to bounce straight back into the Championship" - unwittingly relegating the Ton from the second tier.
More in tomorrow's Tele.
