ROAD cleaning on the A8 will be finished today, Inverclyde Council has promised.

The work has been taking place this week, closing outside lanes between 9.30am and 3.30pm and causing traffic tailbacks from the bullring roundabout to Ferguson’s shipyard.

A council spokesperson said: “While repairs and maintenance for the trunk road are the responsibility of Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland, Inverclyde Council carries out street cleaning and litter clearing from the central reservation.

“This work is carried out twice a year and done outside of peak times to make sure debris and litter is removed from the main route through Greenock

“It is important this work is carried out to avoid a build-up of debris which could cause further disruption. Drivers and other road users are being urged to be patient and leave a little extra time for journeys.”
