FOOTBALL pundit Chick Young will celebrate sporting success in Inverclyde at a gala awards bash tomorrow night.

The popular broadcaster will be speaking at this year’s Inverclyde Sports Personality of the Year dinner.

Chick, a BBC Scotland regular, will join with others in the community to pay tribute to those who play a vital role in local sport at grassroots level.

So far 37,000 votes have been cast for the awards which recognise the vital role sport plays in Inverclyde.

There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award for someone who is instrumental in playing, developing and promoting sport in Inverclyde.

Event organiser Chris Jewell said: “We are delighted to have Chick to speak as part of these awards.

“He has not been able to attend previous awards events, though he has sent video messages on the night, and we are very pleased he has been able to find time to be with us this year.”

The Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards gala dinner event takes place in the Greenock Town Hall.

Mr Jewell said: “We are glad that so many people are getting behind these awards and voting for their nominated sports people and we look forward to welcoming all the finalists to the event and to congratulating the winners on their achievements.”

Those attending the £35-a-ticket event will enjoy a drink on arrival before tucking into a three-course meal with wine, plus tea and coffee afterwards.

The evening is being sponsored by West College Scotland, Inverclyde Council, Inverclyde Leisure, sportscotland, The Oak Mall Shopping Centre, Morton in the Community, Ice Catering and Toast Scotland.

Any surplus from the event will be invested in providing grants to Inverclyde sports people to help them reach and compete at national and international level in their chosen sport.
