TWO men are being hunted by police after they left a man in hospital following an attack this morning in Greenock.

Their 39-year-old victim suffered facial injuries after being assaulted - possibly with weapons - in a close on Maple Road around 5.40am.

He was set upon by two men in their 20s who were wearing grey tracksuits.

The man is currently in Inverclyde Royal receiving treatment and police are awaiting updates on the man's injuries.

Detective Sergeant Alex Allardyce of Greenock CID said: "Two men attended a common close and assaulted the man before running off.

"He received a facial injury and was taken to hospital.

"It looks as if it was a targeted attack."

Officers will today be conducing door-to-door enquires and carrying out further investigations in the area.
