MAGNIFICENT mountaineers reached new heights when they raised thousands of pounds in memory of a much-loved Greenock mum.

Chris Thomson and his seven friends conquered the Three Peaks Challenge  — a tough trek up the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in under 24 hours.

The mammoth trek was in aid of Breast Cancer Care in memory of Chris’s mum Christine Thomson, who lost her battle with breast cancer aged just 51.

Chris, of Greenock’s Kingston Dock, said: “It was such a buzz when we got to the top of Snowdon, the last peak, as we knew we had made it in less that 24 hours.

“We had a big huddle at the top and we were jumping about.

“It was a great feeling.”

Chris, 31, and his friends Robert Derrick, Gordon Richardson, Paul Bryceland, Francis Bryceland, Martyn Campbell and Gareth Robertson along with his cousin John Thomson, raised an impressive £4,000 for the charity.

He added: “The amount we have raised is unbelievable.

“I want to thank everyone for supporting us.

“Over the past few years we’ve raised more than £30,000 for the charity.”

Chris is already planning on going the extra mile next year by taking on the Five Peaks Challenge, which also takes in Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and Carrantuohill in the Republic of Ireland.
