CAR owners in Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank have been targeted by crooks, with a recent bout of thefts being reported in the area.

Residents are warned to keep their keys well hidden and doors secured as it is suspected that criminals are out to steal cars to order.

Most recently a Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Passat were taken from a house in Langbank on Sunday between 1.20am and 3.30am.

Although the home was locked, the house keys were left in the back door and the car keys were in plain view on the kitchen worktop.

At 3.30am the resident saw that the door's glass panel had been smashed and the car keys, along with the vehicles, had been taken.

There were three attempted break ins reported on the same day at Watt Road in Bridge of Weir.

One resident was awoken by the intruders and noticed marks outside their window.

Two men were spotted fleeing from a driveway towards Ranfurly Golf Club.

Similar incidents have also been reported in Bishopton a fortnight ago when an Audi A5 and Range Rover were stolen.

Inspector Cassie Glass said: "Do not leave doors unsecured or even with the keys left in the doors.

"Car keys should be kept well hidden - please hide them somewhere that isn't obvious like in a nearby cupboard.

"There are lots of opportunists out there and officers will be increasing presence in these areas following these incidents."
