A Helensburgh man who was involved in a row over a mobile phone has been fined.

Bernard Boardman was fined £300 by a sheriff on Monday for his "extensive record", despite his girlfriend having started the argument.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told Boardman led a "chaotic lifestyle", with drugs and alcohol impacting his life.

Fiscal Laura Knox said Boardman and his girlfriend of five weeks Jamie Lee Cameron had been heard by a neighbour shouting in Nursery Street, where he lives, on Saturday evening.

Boardman, aged 32, and Cameron, aged 21, were shouting and swearing. The pair admitted the offences.

Ms Knox told the court: "The witness was in her living room and became aware of a commotion outside. She could hear both female and male voices, shouting and swearing."

Cameron was shouting: "Gies ma phone, gies my f***ing phone."

She was also seen to be grabbing and pulling at a pocket, as though she was trying to retrieve something from Boardman's pocket.

The incident went on for about 20 minutes, and police arrived at the scene.

Boardman's defence agent called the incident "an unfortunate one", and part of a "drunken argument".

It was said Cameron was the main aggressor, but both were fined £300 for the incident.

Boardman will pay the fine at £10 per fortnight.
