KILMACOLM is now in the broadband fast lane — after securing a top 10 finish in a new high speed initiative.
Virgin Media have moved in to the village to connect residents and businesses to their ultrafast broadband.
Local residents and businesses teamed up to vote for their community to be one of the first in the country to benefit from the scheme.
Inverclyde’s MP was one of the first to congratulate them as their success was announced.
Ronnie Cowan said: “I am delighted to learn that Kilmacolm features in the top 10 communities of Virgin Media’s Supercharging Local Communities Initiative. This follows the very high number of local residents registering their interest.
“The issue of better broadband access and faster speeds is something which is raised with me, by constituents, on a regular basis.
“I look forward to working with all interested parties in ensuring fibre broadband is available direct to the front doors of Kilmacolm residents and businesses.”
Super fast broadband is widely recognised as key to driving the local economy and encouraging inward investment.
Kilmacolm was ranked in sixth place with a total of 7,000 votes cast via the Cable My Street website. Work is expected to begin in the area this summer.
