ONE of Greenock’s main roads will be closed overnight next week for a resurfacing programme costing £120,000.

The A78 will be shut between Flatterton Road and Spango Valley on Monday and Tuesday - June 27 and 28 - from 8pm until 6am.

Scotland TranServ spokesman, Andy Fraser, says 1,200 metres of the road will be repaired.

He said: “Over 15,000 motorists use the A78 each day, therefore works will be carried out overnight when traffic flows are lighter.

“A total closure will be in place each night to ensure the safety of operatives and road users alike.

"The road surface is showing signs of deterioration, and this essential maintenance will ensure that the route is safe. It is expected that disruption to road users will be minimal.”

Diversions will involve westbound traffic leaving the A8 at the Bullring to go through Gourock to join the A78 again at Bankfoot Roundabout.

Eastbound traffic will follow this diversion in reverse.
