CHILDREN in Poverty Inverclyde’s founder has been honoured with a top award.
Businessman Pat Burke, from Inverkip, was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from Gourock Rotary Club.
Club president, Robert Wilson, said: “The work of this charity has made a great difference to the lives of local children affected by poverty.
“Pat is just one of the many unsung heroes in our community who do so much to help those who are struggling in these difficult times.
“He is genuinely modest about his achievements, preferring rather to shine the spotlight on the many supporters of the charity.
“However, it was Pat’s vision, and continued determination, that has led to the charity’s foundation and sustained success in meeting its charitable aims. He is a most worthy recipient of this award.”
Children in Poverty Inverclyde was set up three years ago to help send families on holiday.
They have sent hundreds of children to Hunters Quay, in Argyll, and now the charity even has its own holiday home.
