A PORT Glasgow road sweeper has been left gutted after losing his wallet – with almost a month’s wages inside.
Thomas Wilson believes it fell from his pocket in the town centre on Wednesday morning.
He discovered it missing at around 11.30am between Princes Street and the public toilets in Shore Street.
But instead of a Good Samritan handing it in to police, the opportunist who found it decided to swipe the contents instead.
Thomas, 57, of Kilmory Terrace, said: “There was £910 in it, near enough my full month’s wages.
“It also contained my wedding ring, photographs of my kids and a bank card. I’m totally gutted. I haven’t slept a wink and can’t get it out of my head.”
Thomas cancelled his bank cards and made heartfelt appeals on social media, hoping that whoever picked up the wallet would hand it in.
But his hopes were dashed when he later found the leather wallet empty and stuffed behind a radiator in the Shore Street toilets.
Thomas said: “Sadly all my money had been taken.”
The dad-of-three, who works for Inverclyde Council, says he doesn’t know how he will survive over the next few weeks.
He said: “I don’t know I’m going to cope at all. That money was to pay bills and live off of.
“I’m worried about my rent because I’m with a private landlord.”
The matter is being treated as theft by police. Anyone with information can call 101.
