JAMIE McDonagh has agreed terms with Morton on a one-year contract and is set to sign sometime this week.

Telegraph Sport revealed that the 20-year-old forward was scheduled to return to Scotland to iron out a few minor details in the proposal tabled by the Cappielow club.

Belfast-born McDonagh arrived back in time to train with the squad on Saturday and played 30 minutes of a bounce game against a team of trialists yesterday.

Speaking last night, Ton boss Jim Duffy confirmed that a deal had been struck and that it was now a case of putting pen to paper.

He told the Tele: “Jamie McDonagh is back in. We offered him a one-year contract and he’s accepted the one-year contract. Nothing is signed yet but it’s now just about concluding the paperwork.”

When asked about the situation regarding the French wide player who had been on trial and if he would be offered a deal, he said: “No, he has returned home.”

Meanwhile, Duffy has wished former loan star Denny Johnstone success at his new club after the striker completed a transfer from Birmingham City to Colchester United last week.

He said: “Denny text me saying: ‘That is my move to Colchester all signed and sealed. Thanks for everything you’ve done. Wish the boys all the best for the new season.’

“That’s always nice. He’s one of those boys you just hope does really well. It’s difficult in that division because it’s very competitive and very physical, but if anybody deserves to be a success it’s him.”
