THE run-up to the Olympics is being celebrated with a Road to Rio challenge at Inverclyde Leisure facilities.
Members and non-members are being encouraged to take part in various activities and earn themselves a free t-shirt at the end.
They can run, swim, walk, cycle or row – or do a mixture of each – for 30 sessions between now and August 5, when the Olympics start.
IL centres at the Waterfront, Nelson Street, Gourock and Port Glasgow pool are all involved.
The aim is to encourage people to try a range of sporting activities and then tick a box on a wall chart showing their progress after each half-hour session.
The charts display a list of previous Olympic landmarks on the way – Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London.
IL membership and retention co-ordinator, Joyce Murdoch, said excitement was building as the Olympics approach, with some of the staff getting their faces painted with the Brazilian flag.
She said: “It’s a great sporting occasion and, even if we can’t be in Brazil, we want to use the Olympics to help motivate everyone who uses our facilities.”
