TRIBUTES have today been paid to a former top schoolboy golfer who has died suddenly in Australia.

Mark Risbridger from Greenock passed away in Sydney on Sunday, at the age of 33.

It is understood Mark, who once represented Scotland as a junior, had lived abroad for the last few years.

Today Greenock Golf Club paid a glowing tribute to their former player — who still holds the course record, set 16 years ago.

The club also sent a message of support to his loved ones.

A club spokesman said: “The members at Greenock Golf Club were saddened to hear news of Mark’s death.

“Although not a recent member due to his travels, Mark was previously a junior and gents member at our club.

“During that period Mark displayed prodigious golf talent and was renowned for the accuracy and length of his shots.

“Mark represented Greenock Golf Club at county level and was capped for the Scottish international boys team as a junior.

“He also reached the final of the Scottish Boys Championship in the year 2000.

“Mark continues to hold the course record at Greenock to this day.

“He shot a round of 62 playing in the club’s charity tri-am in September 2000.

“Our condolences go to Mark’s family.”

Mark is survived by his parents Eddie and Kathleen and his brother Peter.

Details of his funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
