A GREENOCK church is reaching out to parents during the summer holidays – with a summer club for children.

Mount Kirk in Dempster Street has once again delivered its Champions Challenge, attracting up to 50 children during the week.

At a time when holiday clubs have dramatically reduced, churches in the area continue to fill the vacuum. The event offered games, singing, arts and crafts.

Reverend Francis Murphy said: “We do this to reach out to families living in our community.

"There are less and less holiday clubs in the area. This gives children the opportunity to come along and have fun. Everyone has a good time and it is very popular.”

Some other churches follow suit, such as St John’s in Gourock, the Lyle Kirk and the Elim Church.

At Mount Kirk, the youngsters enjoyed stories about Jesus based on the Gospel of of Luke.

Reverend Murphy added: “We even managed to get outside and play.”
