MORTON fans got their hands on the club’s new home kit at the weekend and club chiefs say it’s been flying off the rails.

The smart pinstripe hoops strip was officially launched at Smiths of Greenock on Saturday morning.

It topped a poll of four choices put forward by club chiefs following a rethink of the original 2016-17 jersey.

Tele competition winner Blair Mackenzie, who is seven and lives in Inverkip, was the first to get his new strip, along with Linzi Hill who won a Morton prize draw and kindly donated her replica kit to cousin Laura McNeil.

First team stars Conor Pepper and Mark Russell also made an appearance at the West Blackhall Street shop to meet supporters.

Club director Warren Hawke says the launch was a huge success.

He said: “The strip has been very well received.

“On the back of Saturday we’ve had to order more from the manufacturer. It’s been one of the most successful strip launches in years.”

Mr Hawke is also delighted with the role played by fans and wants to work with supporters in more in future.

He said: “The launch went really well and we’re very pleased with it.

“It’s been a new concept with a fans’ choice and we feel that’s the way to go from now on.

“We’re looking forward to coming up with new ideas for fan engagement and for future strips as well.”
