AWARD-WINNING ferry MV Catriona has been undergoing trials on the Clyde ahead of being handed over to Caledonian MacBrayne.
Launched at Ferguson’s of Port Glasgow last December, the ship won the ‘Electric and Hybrid Propulsion System of the Year’ prize at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards 2016 in Amsterdam – one of the most sought-after accolades in the marine industry.
The ceremony honours the world’s finest engineers, innovations and products in the electric and hybrid marine arena, with a judging panel featuring the world’s leading marine journalists, industry experts and academics.
Catriona was entered into the competition by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd, who own the ferries and ports used by CalMac.
The £12.3 million roll-on, roll-off vehicle and passenger diesel electric hybrid ship is capable of reducing fuel consumption by up to 38 per cent, compared with a conventionally powered vessel of the same size.
This was the third hybrid ferry built by Ferguson’s for CalMac.
