TALENTED student Rosanne Pyefinch of Greenock has nailed a prestigious award.

She triumphed in a craft competition contested by hundreds of students.

The 28-year-old HND beauty therapy student won an annual Craftex contest against students from across Glasgow.

A panel of judges were sufficiently impressed to name Rosanne winner in the advanced nail art category.

The former St Columba’s High School pupil said: “I love nail art and have been doing it as a hobby at home for a long time. I decided to come to college to train professionally and learn more about the industry – I’m so pleased that I did as I can now do manicures and apply gel nails.

“My lecturer encouraged me to enter Craftex, but I didn’t expect to win. When I heard I’d been selected as the winner, I honestly couldn’t believe it.”

The City of Glasgow College student added: “I’m hoping to gain employment in a salon to get some trade experience but, eventually, I’d like to run my own business. Winning this competition has been great for my confidence, as it’s made me realise I must be doing something right.”

Elspeth McCallum, college industry academy faculty head for leisure and lifestyle, said she is absolutely delighted with Rosanne’s success.

She said: “Rosanne is a credit to the lecturers and the college. We know she will be just as successful when she enters the industry, and we look forward to hearing about her future accomplishments.”
