REPAIR work is today under way on the busy stretch of road in Gourock which broke up during last week's freak storms.

Floodwater caused part of the surface at the channelised junction to disintegrate in the early hours of last Wednesday.

Council roads crews were called out to the scene and had to block the road, meaning traffic coming from Gourock town centre could not travel up Larkfield Road and had to be diverted along to the far end of Manor Crescent instead.

Workmen were on the scene today as roadworks started, with a contraflow in place and temporary traffic lights leading to delays.

Council officials said this afternoon that the repair work is due to be completed today.
