FOOTBALL fans with dementia will get a chance to bring back the glory days thanks to a new project run by Morton.

The Football Memories group will offer those with the illness the chance to take a walk down memory lane at Cappielow.

Morton’s Community Trust has teamed up with Alzheimer Scotland and the Inverclyde Carers’ Centre for the initiative.

Older football fans affected by the illness can look back at old team pictures featuring greats like Jimmy Cowan and Tommy Orr and reflect on famous victories.

Head of community coaching Brian McLaughlin said: “We are absolutely delighted to team up with Alzheimer Scotland and the carers’ centre in order to bring the Football Memories programme to Cappielow.

“We’re looking forward to a successful partnership in which fans can reminisce about past players and the glory days. We see this partnership developing and being part of our long-term fixture list.”

The Football Memories programme is part of a wider initiative by Alzheimer Scotland as they look at ways to counter memory loss among those with dementia.

Morton’s Football Memories kicks off at Cappielow on September 13 at 1.30pm.
