A GINGERBREAD man was sent away on the run from a Greenock nursery — and went on a road trip to visit the Queen and the First Minister.

Kelly Street Nursery kids have been following the exploits of their favourite fairytale character as he makes his way around the country.

They were thrilled to find out he made it to Buckingham Palace during the holidays — and also managed to sneak a selfie in Nicola Sturgeon’s Bute House residence.

Head of centre Patricia Wylie said: “The children were so excited to get a letter from Buckingham Palace.

“It came as a big surprise.

“Nicola Sturgeon very kindly sent us a picture of our Gingerbread man in her office, pictured above.”

The Gingerbread man left the nursery before the summer and since then he’s been winging his way around the UK.

Every day the children receive letters from people telling them about his latest adventures.

At the start of every session the children go into the postbox to get an update on the runaway biscuit man.

When he recently arrived at Bute House the First Minister decided to send a letter to Kelly Street congratulating them on their efforts to encourage learning through fun.

Nursery teachers have also used the fun project to help the youngsters find out more about the various kind of jobs people do.

Patricia said: “The children have loved following the adventures of the Gingerbread man. It has been great fun.”
