DETECTIVES are today investigating a serious assault after a man sustained multiple injuries in a late night attack in Port Glasgow.
The 24-year-old victim was set upon in the town's Castlehill Avenue at around 10pm.
He required treatment at Inverclyde Royal Hospital for a cut to one of his hands and what have been described as 'superficial injuries' to his head and face.
A spokesman for Greenock CID said that police were alerted to the incident at around 10.15pm.
It is not clear whether the injured man was attacked by one or more more people.
The spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we would ask that if anyone saw any disturbance around 10pm in Castlehill Avenue around 10pm to contact us on the 101 number."
