NURSERY pupils in Greenock are no longer green with envy after earning their very own eco flag in honour of their environmental work.

Children at Wellpark Children’s Centre are the latest group of youngsters to receive the accolade in light of their efforts promoting sustainability in class and the community.

Ann-Marie Cunningham, depute head of the Mearns Street Centre, said: “We have been awarded our eco schools green flag for two years of work within the nursery.

“Children learned about litter, recycling and health and well-being.

“They sold fruit to the parents, recycled weekly and held community litter picks.”

The children met Inverclyde Council waste strategy officer Angela Hughes when they received their flag

Ann-Marie said: “It was our eco action day and the children had a talk from Angela and learned about the importance of recycling.”

The nursery is now looking to proudly fly their flag, but they need a flagpole and have appealed to any local businesses or individuals who can help to get in touch.
