A GREENOCK removal firm owner was so angry about fly-tipping at an Inverclyde beauty spot that he decided to clear up the mess himself.

James McCairn, who runs the ‘Man with a Van’ removal firm, filled his vehicle with the abandoned stuff spoiling the beauty of Loch Thom.

Selfish dumpers had ditched kitchen sinks, large upholstered seats, garden furniture, wood, dirty nappies and bags of rubbish.

The debris was highlighted in the Tele after a reader saw it and contacted the paper.

James, below, saw the story and immediately sprang into action. He said:

“There’s no need for this type of selfish behaviour. People could take this material to the Pottery Street depot instead of ruining our beautiful countryside.

“My business is removal and clearing houses.

“It isn’t the first time I’ve taken it upon myself to clear up a beauty spot after someone has dumped a load of rubbish there, but this was one of the worst I’ve seen.

“Some people have no consideration for anyone else. We’re lucky to live in such a scenic area, and yet they don’t care about spoiling it.”

James spent 90 minutes picking up the junk and litter and putting it into his own van. He said: “There was so much that it filled the whole vehicle.”

He has a licence to deposit rubbish at Pottery Street, and urged anyone wanting to get things taken away to make sure whoever does it is licensed.

James added: “I like to give something back to the community, and that’s why I’ve cleared up the mess at various beauty spots.”

Inverclyde Council have repeatedly condemned fly-tipping and warned any person caught will be prosecuted.

A spokesman said: “If you are driving to dump rubbish, it’s probably going to be closer, and a lot easier, to go to a recycling centre and use the facilities there.

“If anyone knows who has dumped rubbish, they should report them immediately. Fly-tipping is anti-social, selfish and illegal.”
