A GOUROCK musician has decided to go her own way and join a top tribute band paying homage to her idols Fleetwood Mac.

Multi-talented Lynnie Carson joined McFleetwood earlier this year and having performed across the country to critical acclaim she is looking forward to the group’s first trip ‘doon the watter’ next month to somewhere closer to home, Greenock.

The band will play The Albany on Friday November 25 and it’s back to where it all began with their origins firmly rooted in Inverclyde.

As well as local lass Lynnie, co-founders Lee McDill and Jade McAleney - aka Fleetwood Mac duo Lindsey Buckingham and John McVie - are former James Watt College students.

Lynnie is a huge fan of the rock legends and says it’s all down to Stevie Nicks herself for her involvement in the band.

She said: “I joined them in April but they’ve been going since last year.
“I actually went to see them play at the Merchant City Festival main stage and my own band were playing the next day.

“Music, like journalism, there’s always a connection and it turned out I knew the guitarist and when the former Christine McVie left I was asked to step in.

“It’s been a challenge but now that we’re up and running it’s great.

“People just love it.

“I’m a massive fan of Fleetwood Mac.

“That was one of the prerequisites of joining, that everyone has to be passionate about the music.

“I actually went to see Fleetwood Mac last summer and soon after chucked my job to become a musician full time.

“At the concert Stevie Nicks was like ‘don’t let anyone or anything stop your dreams’ and that’s what I did.

“So that’s my quip at parties - that Stevie Nicks told me to do it.

“It sounds nice.”

Lynnie, who now lives in Glasgow, has been touring the country with the band but is excited to heading back home and playing Greenock next month.

Audiences can expect to hear Fleetwood Mac hits such as ‘Go Your Own Way’, ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Dreams’ and ‘You Make Lovin Fun’.

Lynnie said: “I’m really looking forward to it and especially because there’s such a massive music scene locally.

“Guitarist Lee McDill and bass player Jade McAleney - we call them Lee Buckingham and Jade McVie - actually met at James Watt College when they were on a music course there so it’s sort of come full circle.

“They are also well versed on Greenock.”
So far McFleetwood have played all over Scotland at places including Perth, Dundee, Pitlochry and Glasgow.

They are also set to perform in Aberdeen and back to Glasgow for a gig in the Hard Rock Café in January.

Lynnie said: “We’re really excited about it as there is a massive appetite for Fleetwood Mac so we are hoping the ‘musos’ of Inverclyde will be out in force for it.

“We’re having a ball playing some of our favourite tunes to audiences across the country.”

Tickets, priced £12, are on sale now from The Albany in person, online at www.thealbany.info or by calling 866100.
