GOUROCK is in the running for another top accolade.

Its new look town centre has been shortlisted as ‘Scotland’s Most Improved Town’ in Scotland’s Regeneration Forum (SURF) awards.

This comes shortly after the £5m revamp was crowned as the ‘Best Townscape Regeneration Project at the Herald Property Awards and leisure website Holiday Lettings named Gourock ‘the rising seaside spot in Scotland’ for 2016.

Councillor Michael McCormick, who is Inverclyde environment and regeneration convener, said he is thrilled by the latest nomination.

He said: “I am delighted that the improvements and regeneration of Gourock are gaining such national recognition.

“The regeneration work in Gourock built on the many existing assets already in the town and which make Gourock one of the most attractive and interesting town centres in Scotland.”

Gerry McCarthy, chairman of regeneration agency Riverside Inverclyde, added: “Winning the townscape regeneration award was a real honour.

“To follow that up so quickly with a shortlisting in this highly sought after category in the SURF awards is testimony to the hard work of the organisations involved – Inverclyde Council, Riverside Inverclyde and RJ MacLeod.”

Gourock will go head to head with with Auchterarder, Linwood and Lochgelly for the top spot at the awards ceremony, to be held on  December 6.
