AN amateur actor from Inverclyde who landed a role as an extra on global hit Outlander is now taking his Jacobite rebellion on tour.

Andy McAlindon was over the moon to get a chance to be on the set of the blockbuster time travelling series, which was set in Scotland for season two.

He spent days fighting in the fields as cast and crew went back to the Battle of Culloden and to the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Andy, an electrician by day, fell in love with the romance of the era that brought an end to the traditional Highland way of life.

Now he is taking his full Scottish dress and has joined forces with friends he met on set to form a tribute act called The Pack, or Paca in Gaelic.

Andy, 38, a dad-of-three from Kilmacolm, said: “I have become obsessed with it all after spending days in Prestonpans in fields.

“We had to take part in bootcamps and it was hard going, but amazing to see how a top series like that works

“We bonded over a beer at night and didn’t want it to end, so we set up our group to perform and show people what it was like to be a Jacobite.

“We are now going to see where it takes us.”

Andy is so taken by the Jacobites’ story he climbed to the top of Ben Lomond in full dress.

He said: “I climbed Ben Lomond in full outfit to give people an idea of what it must have been like back in the mid-1700s.

“It gives you an idea of how exhausted the Jacobite soldiers must have been before the battle of Culloden. They hadn’t eaten or slept.”

Andy has teamed up with his fellow Outlander extras Grant McGregor, Barry Stewart, John Dan Duncan and Jay Graham to form the group.

So far the extras’ adventures have taken them to Stirling Theatre to meet up with Susan Boyle and other performers.

Up until now Andy has been an enthusiastic member of the Kilmacolm Dramatic Society, starring in their popular shows.

His wife Anna and three children Daniel, 15, Patrick, four, and Lana, 10 months, are supporting him all the way in his new hobby.

Andy said: “I really didn’t know very much about it all until I landed the role in Outlander but it is an amazing part of Scottish history and I think people should know more about it.

“We would love to film our own spin-off.”
