GREENOCK Sea Cadet Stephen Gregory has received a trophy for being top cadet of the year at Gold Rover in Baker Street.

Stephen, 17, received his award from Commander Duncan Lamb, pictured, who praised his dedication.

Meanwhile, the unit has just retained the Stephenson Trophy as the best unit of 2016 in the Sea Cadets’ northern area, which covers Scotland, Northern Ireland and north-east England.

Gold Rover’s Lieutenant Commander Jim Hearl said: “We are very proud of Stephen for receiving his award, and delighted to keep our title as the top unit in our area.”

The unit has 35 boys and girls aged from 10 to 18, and is looking for new recruits.

Jim said: “As a Sea Cadet you can go to sea, learn to sail and do adventure training, plus get extra skills to give you a great head start in life.”

More details are available on the Greenock and District Sea Cadets Facebook page.

The unit meet every Monday and Friday from 6.30pm in Gold Rover, and Jim can be contacted by calling 07811971114.
