X FACTOR star Nicholas McDonald will be the main player at this year’s Carols at Cappielow service.

The singer is no stranger to Greenock, and says he’s thrilled to be performing at the football ground.

The event, which us run by Inverclyde Christian Initiative and Greenock Morton Football Club, is in its third year, and will also feature the Salvation Army and the Clydeside Singers.

Nicholas said: “I absolutely love everything to do with Christmas and nothing more so than spending it with my family. It will be so much fun singing Christmas carols in such a fantastic venue.”

Organisers are also delighted to welcome Greenock-born star Peter Morrison who will also take part in the concert.

He said: “I have performed in all kinds of places all over the world during my career, but I have never sung a note at Cappielow and I am greatly looking forward to doing so.”

Last year’s concert, led by Ton-loan striker Alex Samuel and his girlfriend Rachael Greenway, was a great success.

And a good turnout is also expected at next’s month’s festive gathering which will take place on December 11 at 4pm.

The service will also be filmed live, making use of Discover Inverclyde’s super screen which will be put up for the occasion Morton legend Andy Ritchie is also taking part.

He said: “This is a first for me and one to mark off my bucket list. Being back at Cappielow will be great fun, I’m looking forward to it.”

Morton chairman Douglas Rae says he is delighted to welcome everyone back to the ground for the annual concert.

Mr Rae said: ‘Now in its third year, we are delighted once again to welcome everyone to Cappielow for this special event with such high profile guests. 

“These have been great occasions, when we are able to present the real meaning of Christmas to young and old.”
