INVERCLYDE’S credit union is banking on a prosperous future after opening new premises.
The Tail O‘ The Bank Credit Union’s new office in Kilblain Street, Greenock, is bigger and better, offering new services to customers.
Former community minister Ian Fraser, who help to instigate the credit union movement in the east end, unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.
Credit union chairperson Sandra Wilson said: “The premises are much bigger and it will give our members more access to facilities.
“We have interview rooms to ensure privacy and we also offer insurance on everyone’s accounts. It’s another step in our history and it will make a big difference to the services we can offer.”
At the moment the credit union has 8,000 members, almost10 per cent of the population. Sandra said: “Last year we loaned out more than £2.2million That is a substantial amount for Inverclyde.
“We’ve helped take people out of the hands of loan sharks and helped to encourage them to save. They wouldn’t go into the bank with £2 or £3 but they would come in here with that, which is a big part of our ethos of people helping people.”
Provost Robert Moran and councillors Terry Loughran and Martin Brennan also attended the opening.
Sandra wants to thank local architects Canata and Seggie and Union Projects.
