POLICE say the victim of a serious assault outside Cappielow has suffered 'life-changing' injuries.

The update was issued today as detectives issued an appeal over the attack, which happened on Sinclair Street around 2am on August 4.

A 34-year-old man was assaulted by a number of people and struck about the face and head with a sharp instrument, possibly a bottle or bottles.

The victim sustained serious facial injuries which required surgery and have left him permanently scarred.

Police say his assailants are possibly male and not further described.

Detective Constable Anthony Hainey of Greenock CID said: "This was an entirely unprovoked attack which has left the victim with life-changing injuries."
