EMERGENCY services were called after two cars collided near the Tesco store in Greenock.
It's understood the accident yesterday afternoon happened when a motorist took ill.
An ambulance was called to the scene along with the police.
Sergeant Laura Stewart of Greenock police said: "We attended a report of a two car road traffic accident on Container Way at 1310 hours.
"There were no injuries as a result however a 72-year-old man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital having taken ill."
Police say no one will be charged in connection with the crash.
