BOSSES at Crimestoppers say they have received calls with information about the blaze that resulted in a Greenock firefighter being paralysed.

The charity recently put up a £10,000 reward to help find the people responsible for torching the former Larkfield Masonic Association Social Club.

Andy Adams, 49, suffered the life-changing injuries while tackling the blaze in August.

Members of the public have given information to Crimestoppers, but the charity is keeping the details under close wraps.

A Crimestoppers spokesman said: “I can confirm that we have had some reports on this case come into our bureau, but because of anonymity we are unable to discuss how many reports we’ve received or discuss the type of information that has come in to us.”

The development comes as the senior police officer leading the investigation says the public response has been poor. Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “We are still appealing for information.

“A female and young child came forward after the initial media appeal at the time and we are thankful that these key witnesses got in touch.

“But since then we’ve had a relatively poor response from the public.

“It’s maybe that nobody knows anything.”

DI Wagstaff says that no stone has been left unturned to trace the fire-raisers. He said: “Every single line of inquiry has been covered.

“We are keen for anyone with specific information about who set that fire, or has spoken to the person or heard them admitting what they had done, to get in touch.”

Meanwhile the community continues to rally round to help the hero firefighter, who was recently allowed out of hospital to see his colleagues at the fire station and watch Morton at Cappielow.

A massive crowdfunding appeal set up to help Andy’s rehabilitation is now edging towards the £20,000 mark.
