A THOUGHTFUL little girl is a ‘cut above’ after chopping her hair off as a tribute to her best friend who won a battle against cancer.

Olivia Thomson donated 14 inches of her lovely locks to the Little Princess Trust — a charity that makes wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The seven-year-old, who is a pupil at Whinhill Primary School, also raised £1,818 for the charity.

As reported in the Tele recently, Olivia was inspired to take on the ‘hair raising’ challenge after her best friend Lucy McLellan fought and won her battle against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) — a rapid and aggressive type of cancer that affects the white blood cells.

Olivia’s mum Gillian Baynes says she is so proud of her daughter.
She said: “Olivia got 14 inches cut off her hair — it’s amazing.

“She was a bit nervous but she was absolutely fine on the day.

“Olivia was desperate to go to dancing and show everybody what she’d done.

“I can’t believe that she has raised £1,818 for the charity especially as the target was to raise £1,000.

“We just want to thank everyone for their donations.”

Olivia decided to support the charity after her best friend Lucy McLellan, inset, fought and won her battle against leukaemia.

Lucy, who attends Jackson Dance Academy with Olivia, was only four when she was diagnosed with the blood cancer.

Despite the pain and discomfort she experienced through her two and half year chemotherapy treatment, she still attended the dance academy — where she learns Highland and disco dancing.

In September last year, Lucy and her family received the news they were desperately waiting for when doctors gave her the all-clear.
