TWO children have been praised after finding hundreds of pounds on their way to school and handing it in immediately.

Sean Barclay was on the way to Lady Alice Primary with friend Leah Queen when he spotted £300 lying on the ground.

Now thanks to their honesty the relieved owner has been reunited with the money they had lost in Old Inverkip Road.

Sean, 11, from Wren Road, said: “I was walking in front of Leah and saw the money.

“It was just lying there and there was a lot of it.

“We looked at it and then picked it up and took it to the school.”

The pupils found the money while walking to school on Friday morning.

Lady Alice staff alerted the police and the owner was quickly reunited with the cash.

Both Leah and Sean were delighted to receive a reward of £17.50 each for their honesty.

The money was left for them at the school reception.
Leah, eight, from Fancy Farm Road, said: “I went to the shop and spent my money on Pokemon cards!”

Sean added: “I am saving mine.”

Sean’s mum Stacey Gillen, 29, who works as a learning support assistant and also has a four-year-old daughter Ailey, said: “I am very proud that Sean knew the right thing to do.

“He is a great boy.

“It’s such a positive in today’s society when young people receive so much negativity.

“This shows there are lots of kind, compassionate young people out there.”

Leah’s mum Kirsty Boyd, who also has a 10-year-old, Elle, and two-year-old Gracie, added: “I am very proud of them.

“I couldn’t believe it when they told me how much money had been found.

“That is a lot of money and I am glad the person who lost it has it back.
“They were very lucky.”
