MICHAEL Tidser says his grounded team-mates aren’t getting ahead of themselves — even if they do have the belief that they can reach the Ladbrokes Championship promotion play-offs.

Ton currently occupy third place in the Championship, just five points behind second place Dundee United with a game in hand over the Terrors.

Falkirk are Morton’s closest challengers in fourth, three points behind the Sinclair Street side — also having played a game more than Jim Duffy’s
men.

So it’s no surprise that Ton midfield ace Tidser is quietly confident about his side’s chances — and he’s confident they can maintain their form and go where they want to be come the end of May.

He told the Tele: “The thing is, if you were to spend time with the lads every day you would see that we honestly take each game as it comes, each game.

“It sounds clichéd, but we do. We believe in ourselves.

“But it’s stating the obvious that we are in and around there just now and of course, we would love to stay there.

“I have no doubt that people will be looking at the fixtures thinking, ‘well if we can pick up points here or points there then we’ve got a chance’, and we definitely do have a chance.

“Let’s not kid on about it.

“I don’t think the gaffer will let us get ahead of ourselves by any stretch of the imagination.

“We’ll take each game as it comes, accumulate as many points as we possibly can and if that’s enough to take us into the play-offs then it is definitely a great season.”

Tidser says he’s delighted with how Ton have fared in the Ladbrokes Championship since their promotion from League One back in 2014-15 season.

He believes that even if his side can’t manage a play-off place this season, they can still classify their campaign a successful follow-up to last season’s fifth-placed finish.

But he is adamant they will be in the hunt for the promotion shoot-out come May — as long as they can keep up their current momentum.

He added: “If we don’t do enough [to get to the play-offs], I still think we, as a club, are doing very well in this Championship.

“I’m looking at the teams around about us, the teams we have played, and I honestly don’t see why we can’t keep competing every other week to try and pick up as many points as we can.”
