A LANGBANK family were the victims of a ‘targeted’ arson attack police said today.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for help from the public after the house in Dennistoun Road was torched on Sunday night.

The Tele reported yesterday that following a joint police and fire investigation, the act was deliberate.

The family, which includes two young boys, were lucky to escape when their house ‘exploded’ at around 10.40pm.

In a fresh appeal, Detective Constable Louise Kane of Johnstone CID, said: “We understand that this was a deliberate and targeted incident and we are doing all we can to trace the person responsible for this reckless act.

“We have been carrying out door to door inquiries and are continuing to assess opportunities to capture CCTV images. At this time I am appealing to the public to contact us with any information that they may have.

“The property backs on to a wooded area, which we understand is popular with local dog walkers.

“You may have witnessed the fire, or perhaps seen someone acting suspiciously on Sunday evening.

“Any information, no matter how small, will greatly assist our ongoing investigation.”

A team of officers were out in force in Langbank yesterday making door to door inquiries.

Police are looking to trace a suspect who is described as a white male of athletic build.

He was wearing a black skip hat, dark top, light coloured trousers and appeared to be carrying a long thin object, which is not further described.

Anyone with information about the fire should contact Johnstone CID via 101, or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
