THE Full Monty is being revived in Greenock — and the search is on for a new male stripper!

Inverclyde amateur company, Sideline Productions, made their debut a decade ago with the stage show of the 1997 British comedy-drama film starring Robert Carlyle.

Now they are bringing it back in May by popular demand.

The production will be directed by Mary Goodwin, who said they sold out four performances in June 2007, and, such was the clamour for tickets, they also did another three that August to packed houses.

But this time Mary is trying to solve a casting problem.

She said: “The cast is almost the same. We even have two of the original guys travelling from Edinburgh and Beith for rehearsals – they were that keen to be in the revival!

“However, we have lost a couple of people from the original cast. One of these is the guy who played Keno, a stripper at the start of the show.

“The person who played the role now lives in London, and that’s just a wee bit far to come for rehearsals!

“So now we are appealing through the Tele to help us in finding a new Keno.”

Mary says the person should look between 25 and 38.

She said: “He needs to be a good mover, and ideally would have a fairly sculpted body, for he’s supposed to be a ‘Chippendale’ type character and strips down to his boxers.

“He also needs to be able to do an American accent, as the show is set in Buffalo in the USA.”

Jordan Benacci played the main character a decade ago, and is reprising the role this year.

The boy who played his son then was Andrew Carmichael, but he is now 6ft 4ins, and wasn’t quite suitable this time around.

Mary added: “We are very fortunate to recruit 13-year-old Rhys Lambert, who gained great experience playing Charlie in ‘Charlie & the Chocolate Factory’ in London’s West End.

“The story is that Jordan’s character, Jerry, is out of work and struggling to pay child maintenance. His ex-wife is threatening to cut off his access to his son, Nathan, played by Rhys, and this is what drives the guys to do the full monty to raise cash.”

Meanwhile, tickets for the May 3 to 6 shows are on sale at the Beacon box office (723723) priced £16 to 18.
