MCGILL’S bosses are offering a reward to help catch yobs who attacked one of their brand new £200,000 buses while passengers were on board.

For the second time in just over a month one of the company’s coaches was targeted in the Branchton area of Greenock.

The latest incident happened at around 4.15pm yesterday near to the railway station.

There were eight passengers on board along with a driver.

McGill’s chiefs are putting up a £1,000 reward to help catch the culprits.

A company spokesman said: “A brand new £200,000 bus was attacked at Branchton.

“We’re offering a £1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.”

It is the latest in a long line of attacks on McGill’s vehicles. At the end of December bricks were launched at another of the firm’s new buses at the same location whilst it was moving, narrowly missing a passenger.

Bosses said that if it hadn’t been for a special protective layer they had installed on the windows then someone could have been seriously injured.

Around £2,000 worth of damage was caused to the bespoke bus, which had only been in service for less than six months.

The vehicle was also out of action for several weeks while repairs were carried out.

McGill’s chiefs estimate that there were as many as 50 attacks on their vehicles last year in Inverclyde.

Anyone with information about yesterday’s incident at Branchton Station is urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
